Jay Gruden Is Early Favorite In Jaguars Coaching Search

The Jacksonville Jaguars coaching search already includes a number of names and one of them is Jay Gruden. Albert Breer reports that Jay -- not Jon -- Gruden is the early favorite for the Jaguars open head coaching job. Mel Tucker is currently the interim coach.

Gruden is one of the hot offensive coordinator names in the league right now, especially since his Cincinnati Bengals are in the playoffs.

Gruden spent seven seasons on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff along with his brother, Jon, who was the head coach. He moved on in 2009 to work for the UFL's Florida franchise before taking the head coaching reins in 2010.

He's in his first season as the Bengals offensive coordinator and has gotten a lot of credit for the solid play from Andy Dalton, the Bengals rookie quarterback. This is an important note because the Jaguars are likely looking for an offensive coach that can help transform the Jags quarterback, Blaine Gabbert.

The Jaguars can’t hire someone like Gruden until his team is out of the playoffs.
