Mike Mularkey Hired As Jaguars Head Coach

The Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching search is over as they will hire Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey, according to a report.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be hiring Mike Mularkey as their new head coach, according to a report by Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union. Mularkey had been the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator since the 2008 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars requested to interview Mularkey last week, but Mularkey opted to wait until the Atlanta Falcons had been eliminated from the playoffs. Mularkey was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills from 2004 to 2005. Mularkey started his first season as the Bills head coach 0-4 but the team rallied to finish 9-7. On that season, the Bills were 7th overall in total offense. Mularkey's second season saw the Bills finish 5-11 while going through a quarterback controversy between J.P. Losman and Kelley Holcomb. Mularkey resigned after the 2005 season, citing a disagreement in the direction of the team with newly hired manager Marv Levy.

After the Bills head coaching job, Mularkey moved on to be the offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins under Nick Saban for the 2006 NFL season and then was moved to tight ends coach for the 2007 season when Cam Cameron was hired as the Dolphins head coach. After the 2007 season, Mularkey was released from his position with the rest of the Dolphins coaches.
