Colts vs. Jets, Week 6: Jets dominate ‘Beatdown Bowl’ over Colts

The New York Jets snapped a two-game losing streak with a tremendous performance on both sides of the ball, scoring five touchdowns while keeping the Indianapolis Colts out of the end zone to win 35-9.

A Jets team that had been a laughingstock looked good in every facet of the game, causing Jets blogger Scott Salmon to term the game “The Beatdown Bowl” in his postgame recap of the Jets performance.

Simply put, it was a very efficient game, and exactly the type of offense and defense that Rex Ryan wants from this team every week. On offense, we saw a very crisp passing game, and dominant run game. On defense, we saw tight press coverage down the field and a very physical front seven in the run game. Overall, great victory.

The things that hadn't been working for New York all decided to click: the Jets entered the game with one of the worst rushing offenses, but Shonn Greene had a career game with 161 yards and three touchdowns. Tim Tebow hadn't done much all year, but contributed positively with a 23-yard completion out of a punt package. And Mark Sanchez, owner of the league's worst completion percentage, connected on over 60 percent of his passes while tossing two touchdowns. Here's what Salmon had to say about Sanchez:

Someone that only looks at the stats will see just 82 (!!!!) yards in the air by Sanchez. But it doesn’t matter. In our system, you just need to be efficient, and that’s what Sanchez was. He put the ball where he needed to put it, and made the plays when it counted.

Thanks to a Seattle Seahawks victory over the New England Patriots, the Jets are now tied on top of the AFC East heading into a matchup against the Pats next weekend.
