Colts vs. Jets, Week 6: Indianapolis fans disappointed with effort in blowout loss

The Indianapolis Colts were blown out 35-9 by the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. While Andrew Luck and the Colts offense had their own struggles, the defense was especially porous, allowing Jets running back Shonn Greene to run for a career-high 161 yards.

Brad Wells of SB Nation’s Colts blog Stampede Blue struggled to find words to describe the Colts’ debacle:

Poor effort.

Those were the only two words I could think of when trying to recap this game.

No matter what coaches, general managers, or players say, running the football and stopping the run all come down to effort and desire. It’s not just about gap control, or other silly-sounding, archaic terms and phrases. When your favorite team surrenders 253 rushing yards, that means your defense simply did not compete.

This loss is especially disappointing for the Colts because they were coming off a huge comeback victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 5. Fans hoped the Colts would build off that momentum, but instead, they laid an egg. But as Wells notes later, this is what young teams often do.

The 2-3 Colts will look to get back on the right track in Week 7 against the 1-5 Cleveland Browns. While the Browns may seem like the perfect team to bounce back against, they did just grab their first win of the season in an impressive Week 6 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
