Week 8 NFL Odds: Bears, Patriots Biggest Favorites

New York opened at PK in this game, but early money in the week has hit the Giants hard and the line was pushed to two points, according to most shops tracked by OddsShark.com (SBNation’s lines partner).

The trends show the Giants running a 6-2-1 ATS streak in their past nine trips to Dallas. They are also 7-1 ATS in their past eight road games.

New England was a 7-point favorite at most sportsbooks in Vegas and overseas.

”It may be interesting as many believe the Rams are a team on the move and their 5-1-1 ATS mark in seven recent games as a home underdog indicates they are a force for NFL betting interests as well,” said Scott Winstone of TopBet.

Philadelphia is a 1-point home favorite (according to Bovada’s NFL odds and those at most online sportsbooks) and one is cheering for the Eagles to continue that winning streak.

“It’s the biggest decision of the weekend so far and we have 75 per cent on the Falcons at +1,” said Kevin Bradley, sportsbook manager at Bovada.

The over/under for the game is 43 points, an average line, but one that puts faith in either the Bears or Panthers offense to outperform its season stats to date. The two teams’ combined points per game only comes out to 34 points, and the Bears feature one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Sunday’s game will kick off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

The teams, though, should be well-rested as both are coming off of their bye week.

A season ago, the Falcons recorded a home victory over the Eagles, 35-31. It was Atlanta’s first victory over Philadelphia since 2005.

The over/under for the game has been set at 47. The Giants have been lighting up the scoreboard, scoring more than 40 points on two different occasions while averaging 29.3 points per game. They’ve allowed nearly 20 points per game. That would appear to make this game a good bet for taking the over, but Dallas and its opponents have combined to score just 41 points per contest.

The Giants and Cowboys will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday. The game will be televised on FOX.

The Kansas City Chiefs (1-5) welcome the Oakland Raiders (2-4) on Sunday in a game that most are expecting to be a low-scoring, close affair.

The Chiefs are just one-point favorites over the Raiders, with coach Romeo Crennel announcing on Monday that Brady Quinn will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward. The Chiefs, coming off a bye in Week 7, lost 38-10 in Quinn’s first start in the regular season since 2009.

As disappointing as Detroit’s record is, their record against the spread this season is even worse. The Lions have covered only one spread this season, a three-point win over Philadelphia in which they had entered the game at a 3.5-point underdog. Last week, Detroit pushed as a six-point underdog against Chicago, losing 13-7.

Seattle, on the other hand, has covered throughout the year. The Seahawks are 5-2 against the spread this year, and barely managed to beat the spread last week in a 13-6 loss to San Francisco.

San Diego will be favored on Sunday by a relatively meager 2.5 points, a line that owes itself in part to the Browns being 3-3-1 against the spread this year despite only having one victory. San Diego is also 3-3 against the spread this year, a number that is in line with their “actual” win total.

The over/under for Sunday’s contest is 44, an average number that is more or less in concert with the team’s combined point per game total on the season, which is a hair over 45.
