New England Patriots at St. Louis Rams: Betting odds, preview, pick, trends

The Patriots hit the road as 7-point favorites against a team that has bitten hard as a home dog. Can the Rams cover a TD at home? Some believe they can win straight up.

The New England Patriots hope to break out of their slump against NFC West opponents this Sunday when they face the St. Louis Rams at Wembley Stadium in London.

New England was a 7-point favorite at most sportsbooks in Vegas and overseas.

”It may be interesting as many believe the Rams are a team on the move and their 5-1-1 ATS mark in seven recent games as a home underdog indicates they are a force for NFL betting interests as well,” said Scott Winstone of TopBet.

Expected to blow by the New York Jets as an 11.5-point favorite at home last week, the New England Patriots escaped with a narrow 29-26 overtime win to improve to 4-3 SU but to fall to 4-3 ATS.

New England’s offense continues to produce as the league’s top scoring unit (averaging 31 points per game), but the defense has been shaky this season; especially against the pass (allowing 290 passing yards per game).

With a 30-20 loss last week to the suddenly surging Green Bay Packers, the St. Louis Rams fell to 3-4 SU and 5-2 ATS. It was the Rams' first loss both SU and ATS at home this season. Despite losing their best wide receiver to an injury against Arizona, St. Louis has actually seen an uptick in its passing offense over the last two games, though some of that may be attributed to the fact that the Rams were trailing in both.

Last Sunday’s loss was the first time the Rams had allowed 30 points on defense this season.

New England has had trouble against NFC West opponents so far with outright losses as a favorite against both Arizona and Seattle. New England has averaged just 20.5 points per game over those two losses, and St. Louis has a similar strength on the defensive line that could give the Patriots more trouble.

The Patriots are a much better road team than St. Louis with a 12-4 SU and 12-3-1 ATS record over their last 16 games away from home compared to the Rams’ 1-12 SU and 3-10 ATS record away from home, but this isn’t really a true road game as it is a neutral location.

St. Louis has the tools on both sides of the ball to keep this game close, so we’ll take the seven points. (Follow Twitter for line move updates)
