DeMarco Murray injury: Cowboys RB likely out for Week 8, according to report

DeMarco Murray isn’t likely to play Week 8 against the New York Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys will already be without starting middle linebacker Sean Lee when they face the first-place New York Giants at home on Sunday, and they'll also likely play without starting running back DeMarco Murray, according to ESPN.

Murray won't practice Wednesday and was listed as doubtful on the team's injury report for the week as he's recovering from a sprained right foot. Murray suffered the injury in the Cowboys' 19-14 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

While expected, it’s not welcome news for the Cowboys (3-3), who look to sweep the season series against the Giants (5-2) and move to within a half-game of first place in the NFC East. It’s especially unwelcome news because the team just lost its top tackler in Lee, who on Wednesday was placed on IR after spraining his right toe against Carolina, an injury that will require surgery.

Head coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday morning the team is playing it day by day with Murray:

“Hopefully he’s just progressing,” Garrett said . “He’s moving around better, he’s in the meetings and we’ll just see where he is. We don’t anticipate him practicing (Wednesday) and we’ll see where he is going forward.”

Murray leads the team in rushing with 330 yards on 75 carries and a touchdown. Felix Jones would start in his place.
