The Cowboys could finally be getting Murray back on the field.

    The Cowboys have struggled to rush the ball all year, particularly with Murray out of the lineup. They rank dead last with only 78.7 rushing yards per game. Murray has 75 carries for 330 yards and one touchdown on the season. He has also caught 17 passes for 118 yards. Jones has 94 carries for 335 yards.

    The Cowboys host the Eagles at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday night.

    Murray has been out with an ankle injury and his return this week is up in the air. He hasn’t been ruled out, and the fact that he’s practicing has to be taken as a good sign.

    The second-year running back out of Oklahoma has rushed for 330 yards and a touchdown in five games this season. He was a revelation as a rookie last year while taking over the starting job from Jones, rushing for 897 yards in 13 games played.

    While expected, it’s not welcome news for the Cowboys (3-3), who look to sweep the season series against the Giants (5-2) and move to within a half-game of first place in the NFC East. It’s especially unwelcome news because the team just lost its top tackler in Lee, who on Wednesday was placed on IR after spraining his right toe against Carolina, an injury that will require surgery.

    In 2012, Murray has started each of the first five games of the season for the Cowboys, accumulating 330 yards rushing on 75 attempts with one rushing touchdown. He has also contributed out of the back field with 17 receptions and 118 yards receiving.

    The 2011 season for Murray ended prematurely with a fractured right ankle and high ankle sprain after he started seven games and appeared in 13.
