Ray Lewis injury: Ravens will take it ‘day-by-day’

The Baltimore Ravens are playing it safe with injured linebacker Ray Lewis, not committing to when he returns to the field. Lewis is eligible to return to action on Thursday.

Although Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis can return to the practice field on Thursday, head coach John Harbaugh says the team is going to play it day-by-day, the Carroll County (Md.) Times reports.

“He is not imminent to play or anything like that, so to me it’s really a non-story. He’ll go out there when he’s ready to practice when the elbow holds. And when that happens, we’ll let you know.”

Ray Lewis is still recovering from a complete tear of his right triceps that he suffered during the Ravens' victory against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. He was placed on the injured reserve at the time of the injury, but was also placed on the new designated-to-return list. Under this new exemption, Lewis is eligible to return to practice six weeks after being placed on the injured reserve and can return to game action after eight weeks.

Normally, Lewis' injury takes four to six months to heal, but Harbaugh and other players for the Ravens believe that Lewis could make his return to game action as early as the Ravens' Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos.
