RGIII injury: Redskins QB ‘definitely not ruled out’ for Week 15

Robert Griffin III has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 LCL sprain. Mike Shanahan says he has not been ruled out for Week 15.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has a mild LCL sprain in his right knee, according to head coach Mike Shanahan on Monday afternoon. The injury has been diagnosed as a Grade 1 sprain and he has been listed as day-to-day.

Griffin might be able to start Sunday against the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 as Shanahan stated that he has "definitely not been ruled out" as of Monday afternoon. However, the coach said that he will not play if he's not completely healthy.

The rookie quarterback originally sustained the injury in the final minutes of Week 14's meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, when Haloti Ngata collided with Griffin's leg. While attempting a run, Griffin was falling to the ground as Ngata made contact with his right thigh just above the knee.

After leaving the field for one play, Griffin returned for four additional plays before leaving the game for good. Kirk Cousins relieved Griffin and helped the team complete a 31-28 overtime victory by finishing the game 2-of-2 for 26 yards and a touchdown.
