Mike Shanahan says RGIII ‘should be ready to go’ for Week 16

Robert Griffin III made it through practices on Wednesday and Thursday without issue, and Mike Shanahan expects that he’ll be ready to go against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III has not yet been officially cleared to play on Sunday, but barring setback, his team expects he will be. Head coach Mike Shanahan had the following to say about RGIII in advance of the Week 16 game with the Philadelphia Eagles:

“If there’s no setbacks, he should be ready to go.”

Griffin wanted to play in Week 15 when the Redskins defeated the Cleveland Browns, but the team doctors did not want him taking part. While Griffin was "not happy" with the decision, he didn't make a fuss about it. He was a full participant during both Wednesday and Thursday's practices this week, but Shanahan has stated that he's not yet at 100 percent.

While Shanahan believes that he'll have RGIII available, fellow rookie Kirk Cousins will be set to fill in should anything unexpected happen. He was effective against the Browns, completing 26-of-37 passes for 329 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also completed both of his passes after Griffin was injured against the Baltimore Ravens, including a touchdown strike.
