RGIII injury status: Redskins QB probable for Week 16

Coach Mike Shanahan indicated that RGIII is very likely to return to action this week.

Washington Redskins' coach Mike Shanahan announced that quarterback Robert Griffin III is probable for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Rich Campbell. For Daniel Shiferaw, coach Shanahan's announcement means that Griffin has a "98 percent" chance of playing.

Griffin practiced with the team on Wednesday and Thursday without any issues or setbacks, but was still not cleared by team doctors. RGIII is still not at 100 percent, but he appears very likely to return this weekend.

Griffin did not play last weekend against the Cleveland Browns because team doctors raised concerns. Fellow rookie Kirk Cousins filled in for RGIII in a big win for Washington. Cousins proved his own effectiveness against Cleveland, completing 26-of-37 passes for 329 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Cousins also completed both of his passes after Griffin was hurt against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14, including a touchdown strike.

The Philadelphia Eagles have just seven interceptions all season, which is tied for the fewest in the NFL.
