RGIII injury: Redskins QB still not cleared to play

Team doctors have not cleared Robert Griffin III for the Washington Redskins game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has still not been cleared to play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to head coach Mike Shanahan.

Griffin practiced Thursday and participated in a complete, full-speed practice for the second day in a row. Shanahan also stated that Griffin had “no setbacks” at today’s practice.

Griffin sprained his knee two weeks ago late in the team's win against the Baltimore Ravens, and missed last week's game against the Cleveland Browns. The team listed Griffin as questionable against the Browns, and will release a full injury report later in the week.

Albert Breer of NFL.com reported that the team doctor had the authority when making the decision on RGIII last week, and it appears that the doctors will have the final say again this week. Griffin admitted that he “was not happy” about the decision, but respected the team’s choice.

If team doctors fail to clear Griffin, fellow rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins will start the game for the Redskins. Cousins started in last week's 38-21 victory over Cleveland.
