Robert Griffin III injury: Redskins QB cleared to play Sunday

After missing Week 15 with a knee injury, the rookie sensation has been cleared to take the field against the Eagles on Sunday.

Robert Griffin III has been cleared to play on Sunday against the Eagles, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Redskins' rookie quarterback missed Week 15 after injuring his knee against Baltimore two weekends ago. Fellow rookie Kirk Cousins started in his place, leading his team to a 38-21 victory over the Browns on Sunday.

Griffin anticipated playing last week, but the coaching staff and team doctors held him out as a precaution. Washington is deeply entrenched in the playoff hunt and is among three teams tied atop the NFC East at 8-6. The Giants and Cowboys both have tough games this weekend, with the Saints visiting Cowboys Stadium and the Giants traveling to Baltimore.

The Baylor product has been spectacular in his first year, racking up 2,902 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Griffin has added 748 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground to round out one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory.

The Redskins will be seeking their sixth straight win on Sunday.
