Redskins vs. Eagles 2012: Philadelphia falls apart after strong start

The Philadelphia Eagles got off to a strong start against the Washington Redskins on Sunday, but like numerous other times this season, the Eagles unraveled and lost.

The Philadelphia Eagles came out firing against the division-leading Washington Redskins on Sunday, grabbing a quick 7-0 lead just a couple minutes into the game. However, it was mostly downhill from there, as the Eagles lost 27-20 after a late comeback attempt fell short.

The Eagles did do some nice things on offense, and rookie Nick Foles looked very impressive on his first quarter touchdown strike to Jeremy Maclin. But then things fell apart, and SB Nation's Eagles blog Bleeding Green Nation says that the loss is a microcosm of Philadelphia's disappointing season:

Much like Andy Reid’s tenure here in Philadelphia, things gone from good to bad quickly in the Eagles 27-20 loss to the Redskins. Time and time again this season we have seen the Eagles come out strong but fall apart when even just the littlest thing goes wrong. That was no different against the Redskins as the Eagles fell apart quickly and were unable to recover despite a late comeback.

The Eagles have now lost 10 of their last 11 games, and it’s pretty likely that the embattled Reid will be on his way out at the end of the season. The team had very high expectations entering the year, and at 4-11, the season has turned into a disaster.

Philadelphia will finish off their 2012 campaign against the defending champion New York Giants, who are in danger of missing the playoffs.
