Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, with his seventh throw Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Bears, passed Drew Bledsoe's single-season record for pass attempts with 692, set all the way back in 1994. Stafford will, barring injury or a benching for some reason, become the first player in NFL history to throw 700 passes in a single season.

Matthew Stafford sure doesn’t seem like a guy who’s suffered multiple shoulder injuries in his career. Sunday, he broke the record for pass attempts in a single season.

Stafford has also played a big role in one of his teammates' record breaking this year as well: Calvin Johnson has the record for most receiving yards in a season and could become the NFL's first single-season 2,000-yard receiver.
Stafford is no stranger to prolific passing seasons. He’s also fourth on the single-season pass attempts list with his 663-pass 2011, and threw for 5,038 yards in the same season, the fifth-highest total. As long as he’s throwing passes to Calvin Johnson and Jim Schwartz is the Lions’ head coach, it appears the 24-year-old Stafford will have many more prolific season ahead of him.
