NFL GM rumors: Jaguars, Jets request permission to interview 49ers Tom Gamble

Tom Gamble is the first name to drop as the firing of various general managers across the league has opened up a number of positions.

As Black Monday in the NFL continues, the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars have asked permission from the San Francisco 49ers to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble for their respective newly open general manager jobs, according to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Jets fired Mike Tanenbaum and the Jaguars fired Gene Smith this morning as Gamble is the first name to drop as a candidate for the ,positions popping up across the league as non-playoff teams begin to make decisions about their coaches and other personnel.

It’s been known for awhile that Gamble was on the Jaguars radar as a top candidate but with the Jets also asking to interview him, it looks like Gamble will be a hot commodity on the general manager market moving forward.

Gamble is in his seventh season with the 49ers and was promoted to director of player personnel on Feb. 4, 2011.
