Brandon Marshall Trade Reunites Him With Jay Cutler

Brandon Marshall will be reunited with quarterback Jay Cutler. According to multiple reports, the Miami Dolphins have traded Marshall to the Chicago Bears for two third-round picks. This move will put Marshall back on the field with Cutler, the Bears quarterback.

Marshall and Cutler both entered the league in 2006 as draft picks of the Denver Broncos. The team chose Cutler with the 11th pick of the first round that year, adding Marshall in the fourth round with the 119th overall selection. They played together for their first three seasons in the league; it probably wasn't lost on the Bears' front office that Marshall had two of his best seasons while with Cutler in Denver.

With Cutler piloting the Denver offense in 2007, Marshall had 1,325 yards receiving, the best mark of his career. In 2008, he had 1,265 yards, the second-best mark of his career. Marshall, despite having some off-the-field issues, has been consistent throughout his career, which is why this trade is so surprising.

The Bears obviously needed help at receiver and many of us thought that help would come via free agency, not a trade. This is a solid move for the Bears. It’s unlikely they would find the kind of impact from those two third-round picks that Marshall will immediately bring.
