Tim Tebow Trade Doesn’t Make Sense To Jets Players

It's no secret that Tim Tebow is a magnet for media attention and scrutiny at every turn. The quarterback is one of the most reported-upon and polarizing NFL figures in recent memory. Following his trade from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets -- a team that already has a starting quarterback -- the media circus surrounding the young superstar will only intensify. The trade was confusing when first announced and hasn't gotten any easier to figure out since then.

More: Tim Tebow’s first press conference is live.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reported that some current and former Jets players are just as confused about the move as many fans are.

Several current Jets, who spoke with The Post on Saturday, asked not to be quoted but expressed disbelief at the team bringing in Tebow.

The idea of a backup quarterback having a press conference is something they can’t wrap their heads around, and they know it’s just the beginning.

Former Jets lineman and current ESPN analyst Damien Woody was more outspoken about his skepticism.

“How many times has a backup quarterback had a press conference?” Woody said. “How many times have there been helicopters to meet a backup quarterback at the airport? The organization is saying he’s the backup quarterback. Well, then why do you feel like you have to have a press conference? Why not just do a conference call and call it a day?

“It’s a marketing ploy.”

Unless the wins somehow start coming in bunches, it’s going to be a long, bizarre season for the Jets and their fans.
