The Jets officially introduced Tim Tebow at a Monday press conference.
Tim Tebow Will Be Used As Blocker On Special Teams, Jets Tell QB

Mar 26; Florham Park, NJ, USA; Newly acquired New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow addresses the media at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center. Mandatory Credit: Ed Mulholland-US PRESSWIRE Tebow has the body type and running style of a large, bruising fullback, so it makes sense that he would be given a special teams role normally reserved for large bruising fullback. If Tebow fills the role well, get ready for a lot more calls for him to change positions.

A few highlights of Tebow’s first Jets presser are below:
Tebow and Sanchez have been talking. He says the two have a “great relationship” and they’ve been exchanging texts since the trade went through. Some feel that Tebow was brought on to put more pressure on Sanchez, to let him feel a little heat.

Drew Stanton Traded To Indianapolis Colts
Stanton gave the Jets a list of teams that he would like to be traded to, and there’s a clear theme among all of the teams listed.
All of those teams are in need of a solid backup quarterback, but in all cases, he would be a clear No. 2 option. There’s a possibility that the Colts could choose to delay throwing Luck into the fire, but more likely than not, the Colts will pick Luck and then make Stanton his backup.

I think New York will be bored by Tim Tebow’s likely average and event-free football career. The odds are strongly in favor of this: quarterbacks average about 4.5 years in the National Football League, and going into year three, this means Tebow should pass the statistical average for midpoint quarterback life sometime around Week 7 of the 2012 season. If he suffers some kind of football-appropriate midlife crisis, you will know why.
The boredom wager depends in large part on Mark Sanchez keeping his starting job, another likelihood given familiarity with the team’s systems and his ability to sometimes complete passes. (Not that Sanchez’s 56.7 percent completion rate will make anyone confuse him for Aaron Rodgers, but it still outpaces Tim Tebow’s 46.5 percent.) The team’s chemistry is reportedly awful. Upsetting it even further by putting in a single-wing specialist with a spotty arm for anything but short yardage situations would be Rex Ryan skipping happily into his own suicide machine. I imagine this happening to some jolly fat guy music.

March 20 2012; Englewood, CO, USA; Denver Broncos Peyton Manning (18) speaks during a press conference at Broncos headquarters. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE We saw a few teams add new starters, a few more pick up quality backups while others will take their chances in the NFL draft. A couple more teams still don’t have a clear answer at quarterback.
There was a lot of quarterback movement this year so it’s time to recap some of the highlights.

This isn’t just any backup quarterback. This is Tebow, and it’s going to be an absolute circus if/when Sanchez starts to struggle and Tebow is standing on the sidelines. Fans will start chanting his name, sports talk radio will be using four-letter words when talking about Tannenbaum and it’ll all be so familiar to what we saw in Denver last year.
With someone like Tebow, you need to go all-in on offense. It’s either Tebow all the way or nothing. I think the Jets are asking for trouble if they’re treating Tebow like a traditional backup quarterback.

Tim Tebow Trade To New York Jets Reportedly Back On
The deal that was reported earlier Wednesday still stands, but here’s a reminder of what the Jets are giving up:
The hang-up that threw the deal into limbo earlier in the day was reported to be a clause in Tebow’s contract that required the Jets to pay the Broncos $5 million to compensate for the front-loaded contract that Tebow signed after Denver chose him in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. The Jets have reportedly agreed to pay half of that, which was the final hurdle in accomplishing the trade.

If Schefter’s sources are to be believed, then the smart money has to be on Tebow choosing the Jaguars. He’s already said to have expressed his desire to play near his alma mater in Florida, allegedly saying, “I miss home, I miss the South, and hopefully I’ll land somewhere in Florida.”
Until the papers are filed with the league office, all we can do is speculate. But isn’t speculating fun?

Now that Tebow is headed to New York, everyone wants to know how he fits in. I argued that there is no clear role for Tebow right now and, according to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News, that’s the case. Mehta reports that the Jets don’t have a “clearly defined role” yet.
One Jets source tells Mehta, “He is a winner no matter how you slice it.” And more: “I would never bet against Tebow.”

As noted in the article, he could also help in short yardage situations. He’s not a traditional quarterback but Tebow may have some value for the Jets in the 2012 season.

If you’re wondering why, join the crowd. I can’t figure out how Tebow fits with the Jets. Is he competing for the starting job? Backup? Only in on special packages?
He’s probably not a better quarterback than Sanchez, although Tebow does offer a unique skill set. The problem is that his unique skill set can’t thrive in a traditional NFL offense so if the Jets wanted to take advantage of his skills they would have to drastically change their offense, which just doesn’t happen from play-to-play in the NFL.

We were a little more than three months from living in a world where Tim Tebow was at the center of the sports universe, but now that Peyton Manning’s under center for the Broncos, Tim Tebow is on the outside of the huddle looking in, waiting on a trade. The way this all went down will never not be surreal.
Tebow may not have been perfect, but he was still evolving, and as recently as three weeks ago we had a lot of reasons to believe he’d be the face of the Broncos for the next two or three years. Then this week happened, and it’s all happening; the Broncos really seem determined to trade him and wash their hands of Tebowmanina.
