Joseph Addai is not long for New England. The Patriots on Wednesday announced they released Addai, who was signed as a free agent two months ago. Addai was on a contract that didn't include any guaranteed money so the Patriots were free to release him at anytime without a financial hit.

Addai was reportedly not impressive this offseason and a number of reports suggested his roster spot was not necessarily secure. Some thought he would fill Kevin Faulk's role as a pass protector, but apparently not.

Addai, 29, spent his entire career in Indianapolis playing for the Colts before his brief stint in New England. He becomes an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any team, but he may be on the street for a while. Veterans like Addai signed after Week 1 do not have fully guaranteed base salaries, which is around the time I could see him signing.

The Patriots have been busy this week, signing Visanthe Shiancoe to a one-year contract. The Patriots start training camp on Thursday.
