Broncos Keeping Close Eye On Peyton Manning During Training Camp

As expected, the Denver Broncos plan to monitor Peyton Manning very closely during training camp. Manning hasn't participated in a training camp in two years after missing all of last year's camp with the Indianapolis Colts. He is coming off of four neck surgeries, so, although he's healthy, the team will be monitoring his arm strength.

As the Denver Post reports, Manning isn’t the type of player who’s going to volunteer to sit out, so the Broncos will need to stick to their plan.

Manning already has met with Broncos head trainer Steve Antonopulos to map out how much he will throw in training camp as well as formulate a potential plan for the season. The team is seeking to find a balance. Manning, who is noted for rarely sitting out even one play in practice, will want to do as much as possible, but he is 36, and coming off multiple neck surgeries that also impacted the nerves in his throwing arm.

Sometimes a return from injury is as much mental as physical. Manning needs to get on the field and throw a lot several days in a row to truly see how his arm is doing. At some point, maybe not during camp, he’s going to have to take a hit as well. It’s been a long time since he’s been hit but he’s been throwing throughout the offseason with the team.
