Terrell Thomas Injury: Giants DB ‘Feels Great’ But Rehab Continues

Giants fans have gotten used to the idea of playing without Terrell Thomas: after all, the cornerback tore his ACL last year in the preseason and didn't play at all in the Giants' Super Bowl run. But how much longer will fourth-year player out of USC sit with yet another knee-related problem? The answer, as of now, is unclear:

“The doc told me that if it feels good at three weeks I’m going to wait another week. That’s just the game plan right now, to give it as much time as possible to let it heal”

Thomas’ injury, suffered earlier in training camp, is in the same ACL he tore last season, but it isn’t a tear -- just a “scare,” in Thomas’ words -- but he’ll be playing it safe considering his history with the knee. Maybe that means he’ll be available for the season opener, maybe that means he won’t play until close to the playoffs.

Thomas was expected to be healthy and be the starting cornerback opposite Corey Webster for the Giants in the wake of the departure of Aaron Ross. Prince Amukamara is the likely starter if Thomas can't return, although the team also has veterans like Michael Coe and Justin Tryon at the spot. They'd like to avoid starting third-round draft pick Jayron Hosley right off the bat.
