Veteran wide receiver Michael Jenkins has agreed to restructure his contract with the Minnesota Vikings in hopes of increasing his odds of making the team. The new arrangement involves a significant paycut for Jenkins, who signed a three-year contract with the Vikings in 2011. Jenkins' 2012 base salary has been reduced from $2.5 million to $1 million, and his 2013 base salary has been reduced from $2.5 million to $825,000.

Jenkins could earn more money if he hits escalators in his contract, but the wide receiver is still recovering from a knee injury that cut short his 2011 season. In 11 games last season before the injury, Jenkins made 38 catches for 466 yards and three touchdowns. In the team’s first preseason game of 2012, he caught one ball for six yards.
Jenkins' chances of making the 2012 roster increased when the Vikings waived 2012 fourth-round draft pick Greg Childs, who tore the patella tendons in both of his knees earlier in training camp.
