It might just be his job to say so, but Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway said Thursday that new starting quarterback Peyton Manning looks as good as ever and has (possibly) the quickest release of his career, according to USA Today's Jim Corbett:
John Elway Says Peyton Manning Is In Prime Form
“That’s why he’s back playing, he loves the game,” Elway said. “He’s proven everything else as a quarterback. Now for Peyton, at the end, the measuring stick goes to how many Super Bowls have you won as a quarterback?
“Hopefully, we can get him a couple of more.”
Elway won two Super Bowls in his last two years as the Broncos' quarterback after 14 years of regular-season and playoff success that had previously ended just shy of a title. After throwing his first game balls in 577 days last Thursday against the Chicago Bears, longtime Indianapolis Colts signal-caller Manning will look to surpass Elway in the Super Bowl wins category as a Bronco.
