Curtis Lofton, David Hawthorne Could Be Done For Saints Preseason

New Orleans Saints linebackers Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne are both out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain and a torn meniscus, respectively, meaning the pair are likely done for the preseason and could possibly miss more time after that:

[Head coach Joe] Vitt is not specifying which leg either player hurt. He says he is hopeful Lofton will return for the Redskins game and possibly before the preseason ends.

According to reports, Lofton's place at starting middle linebacker will be taken by Ramon Huber. Lofton was signed away from the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason and was projected to be a de facto leader for the defense in the wake of Jonathan Vilma's suspension from the NFL for his role in the bounty scandal. Hawthorne was signed in 2012 after four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Saints have two remaining preseason games, hosting Houston on Saturday and at the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, August 30. New Orleans opens its season at home September 9 against the Washington Redskins.
