Washington Redskins running back Roy Helu returned to practice Wednesday, head coach Mike Shanahan told the Washington Post after his club's practice. Helu, who's been nursing a sore Achilles tendon for the last week and a half, was limited in his participation and its still unknown when he will be back to full strength.

Shanahan also told the Post that he still does not know whether or not Helu or starting tailback Tim Hightower, who's recovering from knee surgery, will be ready for Saturday's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, or the season opener vs. the New Orleans Saints, Sept. 9.
Because Hightower is still rehabbing from a knee surgery, it was expected Helu would make a push for the Skins’ No. 1 running back job. However, the former Nebraska Cornhusker has struggled to stay healthy. A return to the field for a long period of time would help build confidence in the second-year back, as right now there’s still a lot of question marks.
