Wayne Hunter Benched By New York Jets

New York Jets offensive lineman Wayne Hunter was told on Thursday morning that he will not start for the team. The right tackle will still have a "very valuable role," according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Hunter struggled in the Jets' 26-3 loss to the Giants on Aug. 18 -- he allowed four sacks in the first half alone.

Hunter is entering his ninth season in the NFL and his fifth with the Jets. He started all 16 games in 2011, which was his first season as a regular starter. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in 63 games and made 21 starts.

The Jets return to the field Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
