Elvis Dumervil To File Lawsuit Against Miami Police Department, According To Report

Denver Broncos defensive lineman Elvis Dumervil will file a lawsuit against the Miami police, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. According to Dumervil's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, the lawsuit will be filed against the police department and the city of Miami for false arrest and defamation.

Dumervil was arrested in July for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly brandishing a weapon in his waistband during a traffic altercation. Dumervil was accused of showing a gun to another driver after apparently being cut off during slow traffic.

The Broncos lineman had said at the the time that the “truth will come out” and that he was innocent of the charges, with those close to Dumervil stating that he was not carrying a gun and that neither the Land Rover nor a confiscated gun belonged to him.

Charges were formally dropped against Dumervil on Aug. 7.
