Cowboys rumors: John Garrett not expected back in Dallas

Jason Garrett will be back for another year of running Dallas, but his brother isn’t thought to have the same job security.

The Dallas Cowboys are going through some tough times, and with them come coaching changes. Owner Jerry Jones already changed defensive coordinators from Rob Ryan to Monte Kiffin, and now another move may be on the horizon.

According to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, the Cowboys tight end coach John Garrett, brother of head coach Jason, is not expected to be retained.

Garrett is currently a candidate for the head coaching position at the University of Delaware. Regardless of what happens with Delaware, the Cowboys aren't expected to bring him back as Jason Witten's position coach.

Jones promised a shakeup within the organization, and this would be another step in that direction. Garrett is also said to not be the most well-liked within the coaching staff, according to Clarence Hill.

If Garrett is indeed handed his walking papers, it most certainly will raise further questions about Jason Garrett’s long-term job security with Dallas. There can’t be much more of a message sent than firing the head coach’s brother.
