The Tennessee Titans have decided to insert rookie center Brian Schwenke into the starting lineup, benching veteran Rob Turner, according to the Tennessean's Jim Wyatt and John Glennon.

Turner came to the Titans during the offseason on a one-year deal for $1.5 million, but has not been getting the job done in the middle. Schwenke, who came out of the University of California as one of the more highly regarded centers in his draft class, now gets his chance.

Before getting hurt with a hamstring injury that has kept him Schwenke inactive the first six games of the year, the youngster was playing well in the preseason. Head coach Mike Munchak believes Schwenke will thrive with this opportunity, per the article:

”I think he’ll do a great job,’’ coach Mike Munchak said. “We drafted him for a reason, and we thought he was the best center in the draft. I think Rob did a good job, but we think (Schwenke) has big-time upside and I think now is the time to give him a chance to prove it.”

Tennessee needed to do something, with running back Chris Johnson averaging only 3.1 yards per carry. Schwenke will have quite the test right out of the starting blocks, getting to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon.
