DeMarco Murray injury: Cowboys RB has grade 2 knee sprain

The Dallas running back may miss a little more time than expected with a more severe sprain than originally thought.

Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray has a grade 2 knee sprain, per Jay Glazy on FOX. Earlier reports suggested that Murray had a grade 1 sprain and that might mean he would only miss one game. A grade 2 sprain could keep Murray out for a few weeks.

According to the NYU pediatrics website, a grade 1 knee sprain indicates stretching and microtearing of the fibers in the knee, while a grade 2 sprain means partial tearing of the ligament. Players such as Fred Jackson and Matt Forte have suffered a grade 2 knee sprain in recent seasons and the expected recover time is two to six weeks.

In Murray's absence, rookie Joseph Randle will be asked to step up in his absence. Randle has 11 carries this season for 17 years. Murray currently has 91 carries for 428 yards and three touchdowns, but he has yet to play a full season in any of his three years since coming into the league.
