Reggie Wayne out for season with torn ACL, per report

The Colts will be without their top receiver for the rest of the year with a knee injury.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, according to Adam Schefter.

Wayne was injured on a pass from Andrew Luck in the fourth quarter. The former Miami (Fla.) star went down to the turf to try and dig out a low throw and crumbled, holding his right knee before being helped off the field and into the locker room.

Over at Stampede Blue, Josh Wilson writes about what the loss of Wayne means to the team:

It also hurts the Colts as a team a ton. Reggie Wayne was far and away the best receiving option for the Colts. He was the best and the most consistent, catching at least 3 passes in 71 straight games - and counting. On the field, this is a devastating loss for the Colts. Off the field, this is a devastating loss for the Colts. Reggie was the team leader and the one who brought the passion to the team. Everybody respects him tremendously. He’s their leader. He’ll still be there and leading, but obviously it’s different.

Without Wayne, the Colts will lean even more on a second-year speedster in T.Y. Hilton and free agent pickup Darrius Heyward-Bey. Before getting hurt, Wayne was clearly the No. 1 option for Luck, with 38 catches for 503 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

In his career, Wayne has proven to be very durable. In 13 seasons up to this point, Wayne only missed three games, all of which came in his rookie season of 2001. Wayne has 1,006 receptions and 13,566 receiving yards, ranking him 11th all-time.
