Andrew Luck blames himself for Reggie Wayne’s injury

Andrew Luck was quick to heap blame on himself for the underthrown pass that contributed to Reggie Wayne’s knee injury Sunday.

Andrew Luck played well in the Indianapolis Colts' win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, but there is at least one throw he would like to have back. On 3rd-and-1 just before the midway point of the fourth quarter, Luck left a short pass at the feet of Reggie Wayne, forcing the wideout to contort his way back to the ball and suffer a knee sprain (or potentially worse) in the process.

After the game, Luck was contrite speaking with Peter King at Monday Morning Quarterback.

“It stinks to the nth degree,” said Luck. “I put a lot of blame on myself for missing that throw.”

Luck’s pass was most certainly underthrown, as you can see from the GIF below. Whether he deserves the blame he is apparently heaping upon himself is another question. Bad throws and knee injuries off awkward foot plants are a regular occurrence in football. Luck doesn’t have a history of being an erratic passer either. Sometimes freak injuries occur.

That said, Wayne could be looking at a long-term injury. It appears that the wideout may have suffered a torn ACL, according to various reports. Wayne is undergoing an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his knee injury.
