Aldon Smith is facing three felony charges of possession of assault weapons, reports Tony Kovaleski of NBC Bay Area. The charges stem from a 2012 party gone bad at his own home in San Jose, during which the San Francisco 49ers linebacker was stabbed and found to own illegal firearms.
Aldon Smith facing felony weapons charges for 2012 incident
Smith is facing felony weapons charges stemming from a party he held at his home in 2012.

Two guests filed civil suits against Smith after they were shot at the party. Later, it was discovered that Smith possessed assault rifles that were purchased legally in Arizona, but had not been modified to comply with California's stricter gun laws. The prosecuting district attorney will attempt to prove that Smith should have "reasonably known" the guns would be illegal in California, according to David Fucillo at Niners Nation.
Smith is currently on indefinite leave after being arrested for a DUI following a single-vehicle accident last month. When police searched Smith’s vehicle, they also found marijuana and pills. There is no word yet on whether Smith will be face further repercussions from the 49ers organization.
