Tony Gonzalez injury: Falcons TE uncertain of status for Week 11

Tony Gonzalez could only respond “we’ll see” when asked if he would play for the Falcons during next week’s game against the Buccaneers.

Tony Gonzalez may be out Week 11 for the Atlanta Falcons with a toe injury, according ESPN's Vaughn McClure, because an injury-riddled 2-7 team coming off a blowout loss needs more bad news, apparently. After the Falcons' 33-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Gonzalez responded "we'll see" when asked if he will be able to suit up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

“I played on it. Wasn’t able to go full speed, but we’ll see how it goes the next day. Usually when you have injuries, you can get through it through the game. Then the next day after it calms down and swells up a little bit, then that’s when the trouble starts. So, we’ll see how goes. Tomorrow, I’m going to wake up, and hopefully it’s not that bad.”

The injury did not appear to be serious when he briefly exited against the Seahawks. He limped off the field to get checked by trainers, but after jogging and making cuts on the sideline he threw his helmet on and re-entered the game. Gonzalez did not appear to be limited on his way to three receptions for 29 yards, but after the game he was spotted limping around the Falcons’ locker room.

According to James Rael at Falcons blog The Falcholic, the Falcons will be able to audition young tight ends if Gonzalez sits. Unfortunately, his absence would also mean even tougher sledding for Matt Ryan:

Awesome. It's sad to say, but an injury to Gonzalez doesn't necessarily matter at this point. If anything, it potentially gets Levine Toilolo and Chase Coffman more snaps, allowing the front office to see what they've got at the tight end position. One cause for concern is the safety of Ryan. With yet another target hobbled by injury, he's more vulnerable. I'd really like it [knocks on wood] if he can remain healthy for the duration of this very forgettable season.
