Chiefs vs. Bills 2013: Buffalo ‘undone’ by 3 turnovers

Kansas City remains undefeated after winning ugly in Buffalo, a place they had been winless at since 1986.

The Kansas City Chiefs went into Ralph Wilson Stadium and did not score an offensive touchdown, yet won the game 23-13 over the Buffalo Bills to improve to 9-0.

Kansas City continues to find ways to win, despite an offense that gained only 210 yards compared to 470 by Buffalo. The difference were three turnovers by Jeff Tuel and the Bills, including a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Sean Smith and a T.J. Graham fumble returned for a score by Tamba Hali.

Over at Buffalo Rumblings, Brian Galliford laments the reasons for the Bills losing this contest:

A strong game plan in all phases was undone by three Bills turnovers, which led directly to 17 Chiefs points. It doesn’t matter how well you play as a team, expectations aside, when you can’t do something basic like perform well in the turnover department - especially against the Chiefs, who led the league in turnover differential coming into the game.

The Chiefs now enter the bye week as the only undefeated team in the league. Coming out of the break, they play the Denver Broncos, in one of the most anticipated matchups of the season. Ultimately, Kansas City was outplayed but found a way to win, earning the victory that seemed so unlikely at times.

Joel Thorman at Arrowhead Pride went over the way Kansas City scores without much help from the offense:

They say you can’t count on defensive or special teams touchdowns from your team. But those plays still happen and the points still count. For the Chiefs, the count is up seven non-offensive touchdowns this season: Four pick-sixes, Dexter McCluster’s punt return touchdown, Marcus Cooper’s special teams fumble touchdown and on Sunday Tamba Hali’s fumble return touchdown.

Seven in nine games. Seems like a thing. A very, very good thing.
