Randall Cobb injury: Packers WR returns to practice

Cobb’s return to practice is a good sign, but he’s not expected to suit up against the Steelers this Sunday.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since breaking his leg back in October, but is not expected to play in Sunday's critical game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, ESPN Wisconsin's Jason Wilde is reporting.

Cobb’s fractured tibia -- an injury suffered in Week 6 against the Ravens -- has healed, but team doctors have not yet given him the all-clear to return to game action. For now, he remains on the injured reserve/designated to return list.

“I believe everything’s healed, just [a matter of] getting back into football shape and trusting myself,” Cobb said after practice Wednesday. “I have not [been fully cleared]. I’ve been cleared to run and cleared to practice.”

Cobb admitted he had plenty of rust to shake off, noting he was “re-teaching myself to run routes again.”

Given the rust and the careful approach the team has taken with easing back Aaron Rodgers from his own broken bone, it seems unlikely Cobb will see the field in Week 17 against the Bears, either.

Head coach Mike McCarthy remained non-committal on Rodgers’ status for Sunday, noting he continues to look good in practice but has not been medically cleared.

The Packers can clinch the NFC North with wins in their next two games.
