Jaguars vs. Browns 2013: Cleveland’s mistakes pave way for Jacksonville win

Brandon Weeden went all Brandon Weeden as the Jags came from behind to steal their third win of the season.

Once the laughing stock of the NFL, the suddenly-hot Jacksonville Jaguars have won three out of their last four games, including a 32-28 comeback thriller over the Cleveland Browns in Week 13.

In a back-and-forth affair that featured five lead changes, a late touchdown gave Jacksonville the final and most important swing and improved them to 3-9 on the season.

Adam Stites at Big Cat Country details the final moments:

After a day that featured two bad drops for Cecil Shorts III -- drawing the ire of fans -- the third-year receiver came up clutch in the final minutes of the game, hauling in a 20-yard touchdown and keeping both feet inbounds to give the Jaguars a four-point lead with 40 seconds remaining.

It was the culmination of a nine-play, 80-yard drive for the Jaguars led by quarterback Chad Henne. It was one of two long touchdown drives that was key to victory, but the story of the game was truly the offensive mistakes of the Browns that afforded the Jaguars several opportunities to win.

Those offensive mistakes came at the expense of Brandon Weeden, who was forced once again into the starting spot after an injury to Jason Campbell in Week 12. Chris Pokorny at Dawgs by Nature notes that the struggling quarterback actually had a solid day overall, but cost his team with a nightmare finish to the first half.

We actually saw a much-improved Brandon Weeden [Sunday] in terms of getting rid of the ball quicker, although a lot of that just meant, “throw it in the area of Gordon.” Unfortunately, Weeden had a disastrous end to the second quarter, throwing interceptions on back-to-back plays and then fumbling, allowing Jacksonville to turn a 14-7 deficit into a 20-14 lead heading into the half.
