Raiders vs. Jets 2013 results: Geno Smith steps up in win over Oakland

Smith has taken a beating recently, both by the media and opposing defenses, but he came out as the victor on Sunday.

It wouldn't be unfair to say that Geno Smith is having a bad season. The rookie out of West Virginia was tasked with taking the reins of an offense desperate for a franchise quarterback without getting much of a chance to transition to the pro game, and he came into Sunday leading the NFL with 19 interceptions.

He finished the day having his best game in two months.

Smith was 16-of-25 for 219 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and one rushing score as the Jets beat the Oakland Raiders, 37-27. It was the first time that Smith had thrown a touchdown since Oct. 20, a span of five games. Though he threw his league-leading 20th interception, Smith topped 200 yards for the first time since beating the New England Patriots in Week 7.

New York ended a three-game losing streak to improve to 6-7 and stay alive in the wild card hunt. The Raiders fell to 4-9 as they look ahead to next April’s draft while trying to determine if they have a “quarterback of the future” already on the roster.

The Jets don’t know if they do either, but they’re going to keep putting him out there and try.

Fantasy Studs and Duds

Jets running back Chris Ivory rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown, but Bilal Powell had just 14 rushing yards and 24 receiving.

The Raiders got good performances out of quarterback Matt McGloin and receiver Rod Streater. McGloin threw for 245 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, Streater had 130 receiving yards and a touchdown. Filling in for Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings, Marcel Reece rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Injury Report

Both teams appear to escape the game without any serious injuries.
