NFL Combine 2013: Eddie Lacy will not work out

Eddie Lacy has suffered a “small tear in some tissue around his hamstring” and will not be taking part in the NFL Scouting Combine, according to Adam Schefter.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

A relatively weak running back class for the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine just got weaker, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Alabama running back Eddie Lacy will not work out due to a "small tear in some tissue around his hamstring."

According to Schefter, the tear happened while training last week and presumably, they have been evaluating the injury since then. Schefter followed up with another Tweet saying that Lacy “hopes to” perform all of the usual drills at Alabama’s Pro Day on March 13.

While the running back class is weaker this year than in years past, Lacy was at the top of the heap. He has been given first round grades by most scouts, and was even called the only running back worthy of being taken in the first round by Mike Mayock in a recent conference call.

It's unlikely that this will hurt Lacy's stock much, especially if he is able to show off some stuff at Alabama's Pro Day in March. What it can do is open the door for other guys, like Montee Ball out of Wisconsin, Andre Ellington out of Clemson or Giovani Bernard out of North Carolina.

All of those guys have been looking to establish themselves as the No. 2 running back, and one of them just might be able to steal the show at the combine with Lacy’s injury.
