Redskins re-sign Kory Lichtensteiger, according to report

Washington locked up one of Robert Griffin III’s bodyguards on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, left guard Kory Lichtensteiger and the Washington Redskins agreed to a brand new five-year contract, according to Mark Maske.

Lichtensteiger has been one of the Redskins' stalwarts in recent years and a key to the success of Washington's offense, blowing open holes for running back Alfred Morris while protecting Robert Griffin III. Last season, Lichtensteiger started all 16 games for the Redskins, the first time he had done that in his five year career.

The 27-year-old is excited to stay in the nation's capital for the long haul. It will be interesting to see how much Washington invested in him with some other holes and a tough cap situation. The Redskins still need to keep money for draft picks and also find some new starters at corner and wide receiver.

Before coming to Washington, Lichtensteiger spent one year with the Denver Broncos and another with the Minnesota Vikings.
