NFL rumors: Glenn Dorsey, Chiefs working on long-term deal

Kansas City is continuing its attempt to keep homegrown talent with Glenn Dorsey as the next target.

No team has been more active this offseason than the Kansas City Chiefs, who have already traded for a starting quarterback in Alex Smith and locked up wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and pro bowl punter Dustin Colquitt to long-term deals.

Now, the team is trying to keep defensive end Glenn Dorsey from hitting the free agent market, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. It seemed a foregone conclusion that the Chiefs would let Dorsey walk after he only played in four games last year, registering seven tackles in that time. Now, things look to have changed.

However, Dorsey has proven to be healthy throughout most of his career, playing in 15 games or more the other four seasons of his NFL time. If Kansas City can keep Dorsey, it will signal that no defensive lineman will be taken by the Chiefs early. Their line would be set with Dorsey, Tyson Jackson who was just restructured and Dontari Poe.

After being taken No. 5 overall in the 2008 draft, Dorsey never lived up to the enormous expectations he had coming into the league. In fairness, Dorsey has developed into one of the better 3-4 ends when it comes to stopping the run and commanding double teams, something that’s underrated but very vaulable.

Few 3-4 ends have made more tackles than he did in 2010 and 2011 when he amassed 69 and 62 respectively.
