Jared Cook rumors: Dolphins interested in former Titans tight end

Could Jared Cook be headed to South Beach this offseason? The Dolphins would like to see him in Miami next year.

The Miami Dolphins are looking to upgrade at tight end this offseason, and Jared Cook is reportedly high on their list of free agent targets at this point, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel. Cook was not franchise tagged by the Tennessee Titans, leaving him likely to test the free agent market.

In addition to the Dolphins, the Browns are also apparently interested according to a report. The Bears have also been among the rumored teams in on Cook, and the Titans never wanted him to leave in the first place.

Anthony Fasano is also up for free agency, leaving the Dolphins in need of a new No. 1 tight end. Charles Clay and Michael Egnew are possible in-house replacements, but adding a player like Cook would provide Ryan Tannehill with a versatile weapon he didn't have in his rookie year.

Cook will turn 26 in April. His production hasn’t been jaw-dropping in Tennessee, but his limited role in the offense at times has hindered his potential. A 6’5 tight end who ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine will instantly improve almost any passing game.

The Titans would like to keep Cook around. However, if he really is looking for $6 million per year, Tennesee isn’t going to give him the contract he wants. The Dolphins won’t expect him to make an impact as a blocker. They want him scoring touchdowns in Miami.
