The Detroit Lions will look to address a thinning secondary when NFL free agency begins Tuesday. According to the Detroit Free Press, San Diego Chargers free agent cornerback Antoine Cason could see interest from the Lions as soon as the clock strikes 4 p.m. ET.
Lions rumors: Detroit interested in CB Antoine Cason
Plan A is to re-sign Chris Houston, but Chargers free agent Antoine Cason could be a solid Plan B for the Lions if Houston decides to sign elsewhere.
Of course, the hope is still that a deal can be worked out with starter Chris Houston. An offer is on the table, but Houston remains committed to testing his value on the open market. As a result, the Lions need to be prepared in case of Plan B, and Cason would certainly be a solid option.
Cason was very productive with the Chargers last season, racking up 73 tackles, 11 passes defended, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. He has yet to miss a game since being drafted late in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Cason notched a career-high four interceptions during the 2010 season. He also has some experience as kick returner.
The Lions are also looking for help at safety in case Louis Delmas cannot be re-signed. Detroit is reportedly among the favorites to sign Dashon Goldson of the San Francisco 49ers.
