Phil Loadholt rumors: Bears could outbid Vikings for tackle

The Vikings don’t want to offer Loadholt more than $5 million per year, however, they may need to pay more.

While the Minnesota Vikings have made an effort to keep offensive tackle Phil Loadholt, they may have to up their offer if they hope to keep him from playing for a divisional rival, as the Chicago Bears are very interested in his services, according to Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN.

Loadholt, 27, was a second round selection of the Vikings in the 2009 NFL Draft and immediately took over at right tackle where he has been a stalwart in the Minnesota lineup. To keep him though, the Vikings will have to offer more than the $5 million per year they’ve been hesitant to go behind, according to Pelissero, as the Bears have offered more.

In 2012, the Chicago Bears allowed the eighth most sacks in the NFL, allowing passers to be brought down 44 times. Christian Ponder was sitting more comfortably, though, as the Vikings offensive line allowed just 32 sacks, the 11th fewest.
