The Washington Redskins moved even further under the salary cap after restructuring the contract of veteran wide receiver Santana Moss, according to 106.7 TheFan columnist David Elfin. Moss's restructured contract will reportedly save the team $2 million in cap space for next season, moving the Redskins over $3 million under after entering the offseason approximately $4 million over the cap.

The Redskins could have let Santana Moss fall by the wayside. Instead, they worked out a compromise to keep the veteran on board and save some cap space.
Moss has spent the last eight seasons in Washington D.C. Though he had just 41 receptions last season, his lowest total since joining the team in 2005, Moss caught eight touchdowns and averaged 14.0 yards per reception, his best numbers since 2005 and 2006, respectively.
As the SB Nation blog Hogs Haven points out, it may have been more efficient for the Redskins to simply let Moss go. By working hard to work out a restructured deal, both Moss and the organization can walk away happy. Moss will be entering his 13th season in the NFL and has 680 career receptions for 9,715 yards and 64 touchdowns.
