Steelers rumors: Plaxico Burress expected to sign 1-year deal

Plaxico Burress is expected to re-join the Steelers in 2013. Will he have an impact?

Plaxico Burress is on his way back to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. A league reportedly told La Canfora that the Steelers are expected to sign Burress to a one-year contract worth the veteran minimum in the coming days.

Burress signed with the Steelers on Nov. 20 last season to help fill in the receiving corps after injuries to Jerricho Cotchery and Antonio Brown. In four games played, Burress was targeted just seven times, catching three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. That said, with a full offseason to prepare with the team and Mike Wallace likely leaving town, Burress could have a much bigger impact in 2013.

Burress, of course, began his career with the Steelers after being drafted No. 8 overall in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He turned in the most productive season of his career in his third year, catching 78 passes for 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns in 2002. Burress left the Steelers in 2005 to sign with the New York Giants, where he won a Super Bowl in 2008.
