Bernard Pollard released by Ravens, according to report

The Ravens parted ways with their safety on Wednesday after two years and a Super Bowl win.

The Baltimore Ravens released safety Bernard Pollard on Wednesday, according to a tweet from Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. Pollard spent the past two seasons with the Ravens, and racked up 98 tackles and an interception en route to a Super Bowl win in 2012.

The Ravens were Pollard's third team in the NFL, following stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans. He has 585 career tackles over eight seasons, as well as nine interceptions and 13 forced fumbles. He's known for being a punishing hitter, and is probably most famous for hitting Tom Brady on the play where he tore his ACL in 2008.

The Ravens have seen a number of players leave the team since the beginning of free agency. They released Pollard themselves, but also lost linebackers Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe to the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins.
