Mike Goodson signs 3-year contract with Jets

The New York Jets have signed free agent running back Mike Goodson to a three-year, $6.9 million contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Goodson, 25, was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the 4th round back in 2009. He spent three years buried behind Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams on the depth chart, but he did get some playing time in 2010 when Williams went down with an injury. Goodson finished with 452 rushing yards, three touchdowns and 1,034 kick return yards. He also caught 40 passes for 310 yards, showing off his versatility.

Goodson was later traded to the Oakland Raiders. He spent the 2012 season battling injuries but still managed 221 rushing yards on just 35 carries, good for a 6.3 YPA. He added 16 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown.

Goodson's speed and versatility has always intrigued, but he never got a real chance to claim a starting job. As it stands, he looks to be sharing in a committee with Bilal Powell and replacing Joe McKnight as the third down/change-of-pace back.
